For the first few days on Tiritiri Matangi Island, Kākāriki were incredibly elusive. I would spot them feeding, only for them to disappear the moment I rounded the corner. But after spending time quietly waiting in patches of harakeke with good light and a decent chance of a kākāriki dropping in to feed, the patience finally paid off.
