Despite often flying under the radar, Aotearoa is home to an incredible diversity of lizard species, with 147 currently recognised, including the Southern Grass Skink seen here. I feel very fortunate to work with these animals as part of my job, helping to translocate and monitor their populations. This individual was carefully moved from a development site to a safer habitat, with all work carried out under the appropriate permits and handling licences.
